    Response to Alchemist
An alchemist is a person who practices alchemy.A fable is a succinct story,in prose or verse, that features animals, plants, inanimate objects,or forces of nature which are anthropomorphized(given human qualities)and that illustrates a moral lesson.
In my opinion Santiago's father let him go because Santiago's father has had this imagination during his youth, but he hasn't had enough bravery to prepare this journey,so he agrees with Santiago's decision and supports him.On the other hand,he likes his boy after travel, will learn that their country side is the best, and their women the most beautiful.
I think the saying "The grass is always greener on the other side",is true. People almost don't satisfy of their act's results. Most of the time, they think that the others have the best situation than them so they forgive their position in their lives.
When I recognize myself, I don't change my original idea because I try to be on my aim and goal , also I try not to go out of my way.
It has been revealed to me, I have more ability to achieve my goal, but I don't know how I can use these. I feel, I learn that there are many secrets in the world, also I believe in the power of the universe. I have seen 'The Secret' movie two years ago. It has the same massage as this book: " When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it."

  4. Who doesn’t have a great dream or an ambition to accomplish one’s goal in youth? I think Santiago's father let him go, by the reasons of either to let Santiago widen his vision to see different world, or to achieve his own "Personal Legend", which is a kind of compensation mind of him. Certainly Father was ever young with his own dream, but, he had no courage to try or to approach what he wanted. As times go by, he is old and Santiago symbolizes a new-he bravely chasing his dream and goal. Basically, most children obey what the elders taught : to live safe in the place where is growing up, to take easy life which is in a familiar environment , to stay out of trouble whatever is not related, and to keep away from unknown thing which might be hurt. After generation to generation, descendents follow the ancestors' path without any change, or dare not to take any adventure. At final, dream is just a dream would never come true. After all, based on father’s love and perhaps some remain passion for his own dream, so the father let Santiago go forward.

  5. When Santiago left his house, he just has a jacket, a book that he could trade for another, a flock of sheep but, most important, he was able every day to live out his dream. He couldn't have found God in the seminary, he thought, as he looked at the sunrise. "Dreams are the language of God" and he wanted to learn about his dream.
He has succeeded in discovering his Personal Legend but Santiago didn't know what a personal Legend was.
He had wanted to know the world, he wanted to travel. That was his Personal Legend.

  6. Alchemist stands for the person who knows the Language of the World that makes us communicate with all things and who accomplishes a real destiny, the Personal Legend.Fable is a short story that could give the lessons of our life. Generally, characters in fables would be animals, plants, and lifeless things which can speak such as human. His desire to travel the world was so still alive that he gave his blessing to his son,Santiago. The grass is greener on the other side means that the better is the neighbor's hen than yours.A personal legend is one's destiny in life. It's identifying our purpose in life and pursuing it. It is what we have always wanted to accomplish. To realize one`s Personal Legend is a person`s only real obligation.' We don`t have to be afraid whether we can accomplish it or not

  7. I was impressed by:"Some times it is better to leave things as they are."Yes I beleive this sometimes it's better not to change circumestances, don't say anything, let people live in thier situation.
I think Santiago struggles with his inner emotions and feelings. He does not know to whether follow his dream or not; he is suspicious.
Santiago sells his sheeps, because he believes his Personal Legend and likes to fallow it. I believe that there are omens for everyone who likes to fallow his/her Personal Legend. I think Personal Legend is what we always want to accomplish, and we have desired to achieve it. I noticed that the story which king of Salem said to the boy, I learned that we must be consious during our lives and no to loose our opportunities, maybe we will never encounter these ever agian.
Santiago, looses his money because he makes mistakes about omen's language, he has not recognized whether this young man is omen for being leader or not. Santiago is trusting a stranger who does not him. When Santiago looks at a sword, he gets robbed because he was not paying attention. I wonder about the two stones, how do these give Santiago a good feeling. I think these have a good impact on Santiago's self esteem and faith, and finally it dispires him to continue his goal.

  8. The alchemist tells you how to lead into goal. it tells you of the wonder and uncertainty of change and evolution, the secret of enjoying the beaty of life without becoming hardened by the harshness of reality, the art of living in the moment without worrying about the past or the future. Santiago a major character in this story, who traveled with his head of sheep.Fascinated with the mysterious of life,he wantet to see the world. He has a dream about finding a treasure in the pyramids of Egypt.I like the book because its uplifting. it fills me with hope and courage. And above all,it tells me that i should never stop dreaming. i like the introduction by Paulo where he is talking about the four things that stand in the way of our persoanal calling."1)we grow up being told that pretty much everything is impossible to do.2)We are afraid of losing our loved once in pursuit of our dream.3) We are afraid of failures.4)The fear of realizing the dream for which we fought all our lives".

  10. An old man, who calls Melchizedeck, the king of Salem, tells Santiago that it is his Personal Legend or his purpose to live. Melchizedeck tells him a wonderful story about a man who found true happiness by fulfilling his Personal Legend. Santiago decides to travel to Africa. He sells his sheep and goes to Tangier, where he is robbed. Losing hope, he decides to walk about the city; up in a hill, and finds a crystal shop. The Arab merchant says that every person''s fate is written.

  11. After almost a year, the boy decides to leave the crystal shop since and to fulfill his personal legend - to find his treasure. He joins a caravan going to the desert. Santiago meets an Englishman who for ten years has searched for true alchemists. The Englishman has many books on alchemy. Santiago reads the his books and learns about alchemy. There is an alchemist watching the caravan enter and thinks that the omens had told him his disciple was arriving with this caravan. The alchemist tells the boy that he will never be happy unless he fulfills his Personal Legend

  12. Santiago’s personality is really decent, brave, admirable and worthy for learning.
While he was stolen all of his money at the step on Tangier, his dream was nearly destroyed. Who was frighten, panic, poor and stayed in a completely strange country of nowhere to go. Giving up of chasing for his Personal Legend seemed the only way at that moment. Nevertheless, he did not take revenge to steal from others, nor implored on the street as a bagger. On the contrary, he stayed, faced the reality, yet, transformed his fear and loss into positive mind, furthermore to observe the alien country as an adventure. By his wisdom, faith and diligent working in a crystal shop to solve the current problem, to earn a living, even more to collect a fortune for future plan.
I don’t recall who ever said that:
“Watch your thoughts, they become words.
Watch your words, they become actions.
Watch your actions, they become habits.
Watch your habits, they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes….your DESTINY.”
Indeed, Santiago has a great potential character to achieve his goal, he just doesn’t know about himself, besides; his best advantage is that he always keeps positive sight forwarding.

  13. I was impressed by Santiago's ideas for improving the merchant's business. He is inspired by the omen's that are around him. During human's life beliefs have an important role and it shows in different aspects and views. "The thought of Mecca keeps Merchant alive."
I believe this because thinking about achieving our goals brings hopefulness and make us strong and active, so we spend our days to achieve our goals. I noticed that we must not change the way people live, because they are used to the way the are. Also sometimes we cannot prevent events that they are destined to happen. In my opinion we never talk about our Personal Legend with somebody ,because everyone has a different understanding of subjects. Maybe they deviate us from our way. The last part of this section reminds of an Iranian Alchemist who is called Zakariya-Razi. He followed his Personal Legend. He was a Philosopher and a scientist. He wanted to change metal to gold. He had many examinations about this, but among these examinations he discovered Alcohol.

    ReplyDelete
  14. "I don't much like change," The mechant said. Most people is like him. " But we two have to live with our mistakes." It made people don't like change.
"Because it's the thought of Mecca that keeps me alive. That's what helps me face these days that are all the same." Is it just their dreams that help us to be alive?
"Maktub," What does that mean? "You have to have been an Arab to understant." Does Santiago believe in " It is written."?
He could always go gack to being a shepherd. He could always become a crystal saleman again but he had to move on. He believed in omens.
The englishman shouted,"Urim and Thummim." He put his hand in his poket , and took out tow stones that were the same as the boy's. He didn't know that they had them in this part of the world.
In caravan there are a lot of different poople and each has his own God. Each was swearing quietly to his or her own God. Santiago swore to Jesus Christ. The englishman said nothing. Why?

  15. A mysterious king named the king of Salem in Tarifa convinces Santiago that he has succeeded in discovering his Personal Legend. The old king tells Santiago that following his Personal Legend to its conclusion is a person’s only real obligation in life.
Santiago listens to his heart and decides to go on a dangerous search for the treasure. He sells his flock of sheep and heads to Africa. He met with Spanish speaking boy who assured that will help him cross the sahara and drop him till Pyramids. But he betrayed him and took all his money for the reason to by camels. By this time Santiago was looser without any money to return or survive for food. He decides that he was foolish to believe in his dreams and quickly gets a job with a crystal merchant in order to save up enough money to go back home.

  16. In this plot showed clearly of Santiago’s passionate, persuasive and persistent quality. For example, crystal merchant said:”Why ask more out of life?” and Santiago replied:” Because life wants you to achieve your Personal Legend.” Indeed, human beings are superior to animals, as we have wisdom and consciousness, so, we can think, can feel and go further to search for our meaning of life, not like the sheep all they want just the food and water. And it’s his passionate to find out what his Personal Legend is after all. Talking about the persuasion, in order to expedite his goal, Santiago skillfully recommended to the crystal merchant expending his business volume gradually, step by step, even though the crystal merchant ever said:”I don’t much like change,” Yes, it’s the truth that people feel more comfortable staying in a safe and a familiar circumstance, instead of taking a risk of mistake or miserable. But if Santiago was satisfied with just being a shepherd, there wouldn’t have an adventure been taken for a journey or to accomplish his goal afterward. While Santiago joined in a caravan crossing desert, he found himself became more mature and confident. As he was already aware that he could learn from sheep and crystal shop, certainly could learn something from the desert. So, he persistently learnt not only from whatever shown in front of him, but also observed deeply in every aspect; just like a sponge sunk into water, it absorbs wild and free as much as possible. Besides that, he digested and analyzed all knowledge, and then transferred them to be his own thought.

  17. In this part of tale Santiago is encouraged to find some secret about Master Work by reading the Englishman’s book and he finds out he can change or improve with understanding and achieving the omens. Essentially he must pass many examinations. In my opinion, “The world has a soul”, means there is a gigantic and immense energy like a big power that assortments the world. All events don’t happen just by accident, but this power has a main role. Sometimes, some elements are middleman and help us to decipher the codes which we don’t know why or how something happens. This part really opens up a lot of discussion to my goal and struggle with my obstacles in life. “The world speaks many languages.” I believe that, “God reveals his secret easily to all his creatures.” For example, sometimes we make decisions to do something but aren’t satisfied in our sight, so when we do this, maybe a bad event will happen. Our inside feeling is an omen for warning. I believe that everyone has an inner healing power but it is hidden in their body. We can approach to eat to purify our soul. If we want to have a purified soul, we must avoid the seven sins, pride, envy, anger, sloth, greed, gluttony, and lust. Consequently we purify our souls like a glass. We can find a special vision; we can see many things further up around us. I was impressed by Santiago’s love, in one sight he has different feelings to Fatima and he knows that she is going to be his wife. When Fatima says, “I too will be one of the women who wait for their husband.” This reminds me of many years ago, when there was war between Iran and Iraq. I was very young but I have heard when the Iranian men wanted to go to first line of war their wives said, “Be sure we wait for you and God bless you.” By this act they gave positive energy and push them to follow their goal same as Fatima.

  18. Santiago decides to leave the oasis with the Alchemist in pursuit of his treasure. While traveling through the desert, the boy learns from the Alchemist. He learns that each person who fulfills his personal legend enhances the Soul of the World, and that the world is just here to show God''s glory.

  19. "Life is the moment we are living right now" The camel driver said. He was only interested in the present.I think we don't have to live in either our past or our future. If we can concentrate always on the present, we will be happy. All happy people that I know are just like that, living on the present and don't even think about the future.
He should respect the traditions. Do we respect the traditions in our society? "Of course, Yes." Santago knows about Arab's traditions in desert and he respects it.
Fatima let Santago go and she said,"Maktub," " If I am really a part of your dream, you'll come back one day." she was a desert woman, and she was proud of that. She wanted her husband to wander as free as the wind that shapes the dunes. What would you do if you were Santiago?
Santiago understanding the language of the world and he always heed the omens so he couldn't forget what he had seen in the vision. Santiago said" Allah taught me the language of the birds.Everything has been written by the same hand."
    Santiago had met the alchemist.

  20. Through the boys’ travels,He begins by explaining the importance of the journey of itself. At one point, the boy comes in contact with the “wisest of wise men”, who provides a story to teach the boy the importance of noticing the small things; However, as the journey progresses, the boy comes to understand the meaning of the wise man’s advice.During his his journey provided two lessons for me: cherish the small things and take chances, because in both you will learn something. and also My personal legend is driven by travel and leads me to the path of my dreams. My happiness is experiencing the cultures of the world, which teaches me about life. My happiest moments in life are when I am alone in a new country, without a map, and unable to understand the language. During these moments, I am free from all that I know which gives me the ability to truly observe unlike ever before. I learn about the people, culture, and myself.

  21. What an amazing result?
Santiago had been going through many of obstacles since the beginning through the entire journey. His heart was struggled with giving up or not whenever he was facing the problems which tested his determination. At the final, he discovered that the treasure was hidden just right in his hometown at Spain, Andalusia field, a ruined church where shepherd and their sheep slept, there was a sycamore growing out of the ruins of sacristy. Can I say what kind of ironic story of it? It seemed so similar to the Buddhism saying that “the beginning is the end.” Which is the same meaning of that people were born as a start, running in a circle through the end is a death; thus, the Personal Legend is exactly a journey of life, no matter what the result is, the most important issue is the process of what you had learnt or gained both in spiritual and physical. We can imagine that Santiago would go back the desert to marry Fatima and have a happy life since after. But, I wonder, if it’s his entire life? Whether his Personal Legend is end on that spot? I don’t think so; I think the Personal Legend should be a gradation which depends on the different requirement and circumstance. For example, my first step of Personal Legend was when I was young; I was concentrating on study, work, marriage and a happy family life. Is it the end? Absolutely not, in 1989 when I first visited Vancouver, I was fall in love with it; therefore, I decided to move and live in the lovely place for rest of my life. Of course we knew it wasn’t easy not only for immigration procedure but also for the future living expense, so it was a huge mission of my second Personal Legend. Indeed, we worked much harder than ever before to achieve this goal and we accomplished it. What is about now? I am wondering again. Why in this time, this moment to let me have an opportunity to read “The Alchemist”? What is the omen to me? Obviously, it seems that I own enough as much as I need so far. Furthermore, if a person can live for 80 years long and I have passed half. Will there be my third Personal Legend to chase? I look forward enthusiastically to what “the soul of heart” will tell me.

  22. Santiago returns to Spain and reaches the church as a shepherd himself at the beginning of his adventure. The sycamore tree is still there, and he remembers how it had been a peaceful night when he had last been there, except for his dream. He takes up his shovel, but not before he drinks some wine and contemplates the strange way God has chosen to lead him to his treasure. Eventually, after many trials and tests, he sees the glory of God and finds the pyramids. Then, he realizes that his treasure has been back in his homeland all along. Finally, he found the treasure and determines to return to Fatima and the love that awaits him.

  23. "People are afraid to pursue their most important dreams because they feel they don't deserve them, or that they'll be unable to achieve them." Santiago is told that. The story is about a simple truth and placed in a unique situation. It teaches us a presious lesson just to pursue our the most meaningfull dreams because if we want, we will learn the language of the world and the universe help us. It won't be a false hope and everybody will be able to achieve them.
I have a dream and I don't fear of it, I try to listen to my heart to understant the messeges that comes from the universe. It's just like Santiago started his journey and pursue his personal Legend. I have spoken to many who have a similar experiences, maybe sometimes we feel powerless but won't last too long.
I think there are some dreams which the people are correct to fear and I believe that dreams should simply remain as dream if someone's dream is harmful or tragic to the others. Dreams which the world help us to pursue are full of love and happiness and peace. This is the language that we have to teach to the next generation and encourage them to follow.
THE ALCHEMIST story tells us everything is possible as long as you really want to happen. The simple thing in the world is the most valuable and just wise people appreciate them.
THE ALCHEMIST IS A STOY ABOUT CIRCLE OF LIFE.

  24. why cant some people achieve their dreams? the first one is fair . people are afraid that they will lose the things that have. they are used to the way things are. they dont want to change it and dont know how to deal with the changes. the second reson is that people are likely to give up halfway."every serch begins withh beginners luck and every serch ends with the victors being severely tested." teh third reson is that people think they dont deserve the dreams or they will be unable to achieve them. undoubtedly, inborn condition may block ones way from searching his dream.in fact dreams are usually easiar to achieve than we expect. therefore, we should be more confident and believe in ourselves when searching for our dreams.

    ReplyDelete
  25. When people make a decision, they are really diving into a strong current that will carry them to places that they have never predicted. Everyone has at least one dream which leads him/her to follow their goals. During the way people need more strength to continue. Also they need a teacher as a leader for supporting and inner healing powers. Sometimes people achieve their goal easily. Their route is straight and clear; also they can recognize and select correct omens. In other hand, they can see over present and to nail their goals. Sometimes they look around and see many others who have not succeeded so they think, they don’t deserve. Sometimes, people cannot follow their dream because they don’t want enough to achieve or they don’t have desire to conquer fear. We must begin to fight for our dreams. After having overcome the defeats, we feel much more confident in the silence of our hearts.
My Personal legend or my dream is preparing for a good situation for continuing my education and making stable circumstance for me. Everyone has some things to gain in this beautiful world. The Soul of the World leads me to acquaint with omens that lead me to achieve my goal. The first flash of thought happened, when I saw the “Secret” movie about five years ago. This documentary is about some successful people who speak about their desire to achieve their goal and how they can get to high level of power and positive energy, like the can push universe to conspire their goal. Also many other things like speaking with some people who had problem like me, motivated me to think about moving. I prepared step by step everything for moving. I am here but with many problems: having a long distance away from my family, different culture and to feel lonely at times.
There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure. One of my friend who desired for a better life, so move to Canada same as me; unfortunately long distance didn’t work about her and she divorced. She has a big responsibility with two children, so she feels failure but it causes a new a new Personal Legend. We should never ever give up.
When I think about my life I realize that sometimes it’s better that some dreams simply have to remain as dreams and don’t follow them because thinking about those make energy in our lives, thinking about those bring meaning to our lives and show love to continue our lives. “ The world we live in will be either better or worse, depending on whether we become better or worse.”
